Different media players respond to different command sets. To configure which command set(s) are issued when the buttons are pressed, access the 'Settings' menu/action bar option. You may need to experiment to determine which set(s) work with your media player(s).
Note: This is not a media player, it is merely a 'large button' + 'screen stays on/active' controller for you media player. Your media player will need to be running in order for the buttons to work.
